Former Premier League striker Dimitar Berbatov has spoken of his desire to get back to playing at the top level, and revealed he might have joined Sunderland.
?
Speaking on Goals on Sunday, the former Manchester United, Tottenham and Fulham marksman told Ben Shephard and Chris Kamara that he had been in contract with a number of managers about playing in the Premier League again.

When asked by Shephard: “Are you still looking to play? Have you stopped? What’s going on?” he replied: “Yes of course, I want to play. To be honest I have had conversations with a couple of managers, even with Sunderland. But in the end nothing happened so, you know when you play football for so long and I’m still in good shape – I try to stay in good shape – football for me is my life, so I am still looking to play.”
?
That news might come as a blow to Sunderland fans, who might be wondering what might have been had Berbatov – scorer of 94 Premier League goals in 224 appearances for three clubs – been in their ranks for the second half of the season.
Before their two goals against West Ham on Saturday, they hadn’t hit the back of the net in the Premier League since hitting four past Crystal Palace all the way back in early February.
?
The Black Cats have relied heavily on the striking instincts of Jermain Defoe once again this season, but his 14 Premier League goals have not been enough to keep them out of trouble.?
