'No-Brainer' Stoke City Sign Defender Glen Johnson to New 1-Year Extension Thereby Ending Rumours

?Stoke City full-back Glen Johnson has signed a new deal at the club, which will extend his stay an extra year, and seemingly put an end to recent speculation linking him with, amongst others, a return to his former club West Ham.

The 32-year-old Englishman was sensationally linked with Spanish giants Barcelona towards the end of last year, but the Potters have moved to make sure that he won’t leave for the Camp Nou anytime soon, with his new contract set to expire in the summer of 2018.

A statement on Stoke’s website reads: “The former England right-back today signed a one-year contract extension, committing him to the Potters until at least the summer of 2018.

“Johnson, whose existing deal was due to expire this summer, made his 50th league and cup appearance for the Potters in Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Hull City.”

The player told the club’s website that accepting the deal was a ‘no-brainer’, and he did not hesitate to sign.

“It was a no-brainer for me when the Club indicated they wanted me to sign a contract extension,” he said.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time as a Stoke City player so far. People made me feel really welcome from the moment I walked through the door two years and it’s a good place to be.

“I still feel as though I’ve got plenty to offer as a player and want to continue to help Stoke City move forward.”
