Leicester and Southampton are both interested in signing Nice midfielder
The 25-year-old has been pivotal in the French side’s unlikely push for the Ligue 1 title this season, scoring six goals and adding nine assists from central midfield. He is expected to be heavily linked with moves elsewhere, but the two Premier League sides have already made contact with Nice regarding a possible deal.
With a release clause of £33.5m Seri will be a significant investment for both sides, and the price could be one of the few stumbling blocks preventing either side from completing the deal. The fee would be the most amount of money either the Foxes or the Saints have spent on one player.
Leicester made Islam Slimani their most expensive signing last summer after completing a deal worth £28m, while Southampton broke the bank to bring Sofiane Boufal to St Mary’s in the same transfer window, splashing out a reported £16m.
Neither deal has worked out as of yet, meaning both clubs may be cautious before the potential transfer the green light. However, with the two sides eager to improve their standing in the Premier League, club-record fees may need to be spent in the coming transfer windows.
The signing could help Leicester fill the void left by N’Golo Kante’s departure, although Wilfred Ndidi has impressed in recent weeks after turning in some impressive performances and scoring a screamer in the 2-0 win over Stoke earlier this month.
Southampton have recruited well over the past five years since they regained their Premier League status, and Seri could prove to be a good foil for defensive midfielder Oriol Romeu.
