Swansea's Gylfi Sigurðsson Insists He 'Expects to Stay' Amid Interest From Premier League Rivals

After a turbulent season which threatened relegation Swansea ?midfielder Gylfi Sigurðsson insists he is ‘not trying to leave or wants to leave’ the Swans when the summer transfer window opens in July.

The 27-year-old, who was named players’ and supporters’ player of the year on Wednesday for a second straight season, is an instrumental player in the Swansea lineup and as such has been linked to the likes of Everton and West Ham.

However, Sigurðsson said of his future, as reported by Wales Online“I signed a new contract in the summer and I’ve got three years left.

I expect to stay. It’s down to the club if they want to sell me. I’m not trying to leave or want to leave. I’m very happy here.”

The Iceland international is in his second spell at the club following his re-signing from Tottenham in 2014, and his third consecutive season a the Liberty Stadium has returned nine goals and 13 assists which has played an instrumental role in Paul Clement’s side surviving the drop.

Despite the Swans spending the majority of the season in a relegation battle where they eventually secured their Premier League safety with one game to spare, the 27-year-old admitted.

“It has been easy in the last couple of months because we’ve been in a very serious position in the league, so it’s been easy to concentrate on that, Sigurðsson added.

“I think it’ll continue to be like that because whatever happens, happens. I’m not desperate to go or anything. It’s not like I want to go. It’s just very calm and I’m not focused or concentrating on what people are writing.”
