Swansea City manager Paul Clement has stated that if his side can continue the kind of form they have shown in 2017, then they are very capable of finishing in the top eight next season.
Clement has quickly become a god amongst men at the Liberty Stadium since taking over at the turn of the year. ?
Upon his arrival, the Swans sat rock bottom of the Premier League; fast forward to the final game of the season and the south Wales outfit can rest easy knowing that they are guaranteed Premier League football next term.
The English manager has obviously learned a lot from being Carlo Ancelotti’s right hand man over the years, and his rejuvenation of a deflated Swansea team has shown that.
Now that his short term job is done, Clement faces the task of continuing the good work. When asked how he can take his team forward into next season, he told the Daily Star:
“This weekend we have the chance to add another three. To get 29 points over half a season is a pretty good tally.
“If you can replicate that over a whole season, which is a difficult thing to do, of course, then you’re going to have a total that puts you up around eighth in the Premier League.
“The first step to doing this is to continue building the identity of the club, and to play the sort of football we want to here.
“And then we have to make sure we are not in the same situation we’ve found ourselves in this season – fighting relegation right up to the penultimate game.”
For the first time in what feels like eternity for Swansea fans, things are looking very promising.
