?Liverpool will be vying to bolster their squad in readiness for next season, as they embark on a potential European tour in the Champions League after their fourth-placed finish this term.
Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk is a player who has been on the cusp of a move away from St. Mary’s for some time now, and, according to a report published by Mirror, the Reds could be in pole position for his signature as the Dutchman has an attraction to playing under charismatic boss Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool have been touted amongst the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea in the race for his services. While all four clubs have reportedly made enquiries about van Dijk’s availability in the imminent transfer window, the south coast club have remained adamant that the Dutch international is in fact not for sale.
Liverpool and the Gunners are both allegedly willing to provide the 25-year-old with a substantial £200,000 in weekly wages, but with the Saints more than prepared to play hard ball, he’s likely to cost any of his suitors around £50m in transfer fees.
However, with Klopp’s vision of furthering Liverpool’s status both domestically and on the continent, van Dijk could provide the quality at the back the Reds need to challenge on all fronts next season.
Despite his rumoured openness to playing under Klopp, van Dijk has yet to comment on his future and Liverpool will face a tough task in securing their man ahead of their Premier League rivals.
