Liverpool and Everton have overtaken Atletico Madrid as frontrunners in the betting markets for striker Jamie Vardy, should he leave Leicester City.
The Spanish? giants have had their FIFA-imposed transfer ban upheld, meaning they cannot be register new players until 2018. The news has put to bed any rumours of a move to the red half of Madrid for Vardy.
Now bookmakers Sky Bet (via HITC) have now shortened the odds for Premier League rivals Liverpool and Everton to sign the 30-year-old English international.
The Reds still have relatively long odds at 6/1, while the Toffees sit at 8/1, indicating that neither club are yet to make concrete advances for Vardy. He is currently 1/6 to stay at the King Power stadium.
One of the Foxes’ many heroes from their Premier League triumph in 2015/16, the former Fleetwood Town striker endured a rather mixed season in 2016/17.
Aside from a hattrick against Manchester City, the early parts of the campaign were difficult for Vardy. However, the introduction of Craig Shakespeare as manager seemed to restore his previous form.
Finishing with 13 Premier League goals, the Leicester forward prove he still has a great eye for goal.
Whether or not actually interested in Vardy, Liverpool are likely to attempt to strengthen in attack next, particularly if Daniel Sturridge leaves, and are partial to a pacey attacker.
As for Everton, the Toffees have to face the realistic prospect of replacing current star striker Romelu Lukaku and Ronald Koeman could do far worse than Leicester’s number nine.
However, with Riyad Mahrez looking set to leave the Foxes after handing in a transfer request, the club will be desperate to not lose another star name in the summer.
