Alexander Sorloth Hits Back at Critics & Opens Up on Being 'Terribly Frustrated' at Crystal Palace

?Crystal Place forward Alexander Sorloth, who is currently on loan at Trabzonspor, has revealed that he was left ‘terribly frustrated’ by his lack of starting opportunities during his time with the Eagles. 

Sorloth made the switch to Selhurst Park on deadline day in the January 2018 transfer window. However, he started just four of his side’s 12 remaining Premier League games. The following season saw the Norwegian fail to start a single league game for the Eagles, while he was limited to cameo appearances off the bench.

As a result, he was shipped out on loan to Gent for the second half of the campaign, before being sent out to Turkey for the 2019/20 season. 

The forward is now thriving during his loan spell with Trabzonspor, netting a scarcely believable 25 goals and providing a further seven assists in just 39 appearances in all competitions. 

His fine form hasn’t gone unnoticed either, with it being reported that the likes of ?Manchester United, Napoli, ?Real Madrid and ?Bayern Munich are all ?interested in his services. 

It has been quite the upturn in form, and Sorloth has now opened up what went wrong during his time at ?Palace. 

The 24-year-old has explained that he was left extremely frustrated by the fact that he was never really given the chance to play from the start despite some promising cameo appearances. 

Sorloth told ?TV2: “I had a wrongly cancelled goal against Chelsea in one of the first matches. If I had scored then I might have fortified my position in the team. The following week I was going to start against Huddersfield, but unfortunately suffered an injury.

“I tried to think positively, but didn’t get a minute to the rest of the season, even though I was in the squad.”

The attacker went on to add that he believes the criticism he received from the media and fans wasn’t justified, especially considering the lack of time he was given to impress. 

He added: “You are judged by fans and journalists for the few minutes you get at the end of a match, which I think is terribly unfair. I mean you can’t consider players who are not permanent on the team. If you are a player who just gets thrown in, it goes beyond confidence and you feel you are not good enough to start. It causes stress.

“I remember scoring in a league cup match against Swansea, thinking that if I don’t get the chance now then I have to get on a loan. When I didn’t get the chance, I was terribly frustrated.”
