Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey has been listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, coach Matt Rhule said Friday.
McCaffrey, who missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury, on Thursday said he “definitely” had a chance to play vs. the Eagles. He has been listed as a limited practice participant the past three days, and Rhule had previously said he’d be a game-time decision.
“Nothing much more to add. He’s been going [in practice],” Rhule said Friday. “It’s doubtful he’ll play on Sunday. That could change. I’m not going to play any games.”

The initial prognosis for the injury was that he could miss several weeks.
McCaffrey in 2019 became the third player in NFL history to have 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in the same season. He entered Week 3 as the NFL’s leader in total yards from scrimmage with 324 and had 364 when he strained the hamstring in the second quarter against Houston.
Chuba Hubbard led Carolina last week with 13 carries for 57 yards rushing against Dallas. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady said Royce Freeman and Rodney Smith also were preparing to to be ready if McCaffrey can’t play vs. Philadelphia.
